Washington DC

The District… The Federal City… no surprise here why the capital of our nation is a hot spot for students! D.C., fully known as the District of Columbia, boasts monuments, memorials, and countless pieces of American history and patriotism. Washington DC offers museums that pique just about every interest you can think of (did you know there’s even a museum for the postal system?!). No matter how diverse a group is or how wide of a range your students interests may be, you’ll be able to find something for everyone in the Capitol.

Explore the “Capital” Tour

Most travel groups arrive in the nation’s capitol and head straight to the National Mall. After all, nowhere else on the planet can you visit so many Smithsonian museums of your choice all within mere feet of each other! Have some drama lovers!? Maybe you want to see the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz at the Museum of American History. Any aspiring royalty in the group? Gawk at the rare gemstones at the Museums of Natural History. Perhaps its time to remember the King of Pop – and check out Michael Jackson’s fedora at the newest Smithsonian museum. Or, consider the impressive and newly opened Museum of African American History – a testament to the many untold stories of our nation’s history. On the way to lunch you may just catch a glimpse of this little home we call – the White House. Only the most well-known and recognizable residence in America! Fear not though, as the sun goes down it does not take with it the magic of the city with it – students will be dazzled by an Illuminated Night Tour of the monuments and memorials showing them LITERALLY in a whole new light.

Fill up during breakfast because you’ll need the energy for the day ahead! Your tour guide will be ready to go sharing extensive knowledge about all of the historic landmarks and sites that you’ll be passing by. Make sure your phones are on full charge because they’ll be plenty of photo ops to get that perfect Instagram shot. If American history isn’t exactly your thing, you’ll have a paw-some time at the National Zoo! We know a lot of teachers sometimes say their classroom feels like a zoo – WELL HERE iS THE REAL THING!! Kids of all ages love to learn about all things scaley, furry, winged, and finned. After the zoo tour, the animal action continues as your class can turn in to PARTY ANIMALS with a high-energy DJ dinner cruise on the Potomac River filled with great food and tunes.

Fuel up for your final day, kicking it off with the Arlington National Cemetery where you’ll hop on a tram tour and witness the Changing of the Guards. An incredibly emotional and impactful experience, this portion of the trip often leaves students with a newfound sense of understanding for the sacrifice countless brave men and women have made for our nation. Grab a bite in the museum cafe and experience the interactive exhibits portraying 500+ years of history through the eyes of the media. As you depart from your D.C. journey remind students, the next time they are back in the Capital it may be on the way to their very own office. They will have our vote in #Campaign2050!
